Vilk Collective at its core, is creative duo Roxana Vilk and Peter Vilk both musicians and award winning filmmakers, who met in Bosnia just after the war.
War was a backdrop to both their childhoods, Roxana grew up in Iran and her family fled as the Iran/Iraq war started. Pete was born in London but his parents grew up in the old Czechoslovakia and had fled to London when the Russian tanks invaded in 1968. They both grew up listening to eclectic music from Iranian Folk songs & Persian Funk to Czech Jazz & Punk.
At the heart of their artistic approach is collaboration - for their new album they've recorded with top musicians Yann Seznec on Keys (Mathew Herbert, Seznec Bros), Allan Ferguson on Bass (Freaky Family, Duchamp Pilot, Jit Music Bhundi Boys). Vilk Collective’s earlier incarnation was GOL and GOL Productions creating over 30 short films, releasing 3 Albums, collaborating with many amazing musicians and friends in Scotland and Bosnia and performing at festivals like Kelburn Garden Party, Knockengorroch, Big Tentacross Scotland.
BBC TV has filmed Vilk Collective for 3 separate music programmes & recorded live sessions at the Premise Studios, as well as filming us record our 2015 record “Strange Times”, we were selected for the UK Jazz Expo at the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival twice and commissioned to create 45 minutes of original music for the Edinburgh Art Festival as part of the Nam Jun Paik Exhibition and the “Mixed Up” show in a Big Top Circus Tent in Leith 4 * 75minute shows Creative Scotland Commission 2009.
Now based in Bristol they are launching their new single “Just Disappeared” 2019 . Featuring renowned Cellist Su-a Lee.The short art dance film won two Awards : AVIFF CANNES 2ND PRIX DU JOUR Best Short Dance Film - Best Artist Award at The New Renaissance Film Festival London 2018.
